The Course

Arrival/Parking: The event takes place at North Fork County Park, in the Cutler Flats Area, linked HERE.  Please follow the signs to parking in the open fields on the east end of Cutler Flats, then walk to the west side of Cutler Flats to the Festival/Race area to check-in.  You will see Arches and Equipment setup in this area, as well as a large generator and light if you’re arriving before dawn.

Lap Counting/Last Lap: This is a fixed time, looped course event.  The goal is to complete as many loops as you can in the allotted time.  The person with the most completed loops in the shortest amount of time wins.  There are no ‘partial’ loops, and all loops must be completed before the end of your event.  For example, the 6 hour events end at 5:00pm sharp.  For your last loop to count, you must cross the finish line by 5:00pm.  In this example if you had 5 loops, and finished your 6th loop at 5:10pm, you will be marked as finished with a total of 5 loops.

Timing and Race Finish: this is a chip-timed event.  Our partners at Brooksee will be heading up the timing this year.  You MUST let them know when you are finished with the event.  As this is a fixed-time course, you can choose when you’ve had enough.  If you know you will not be going out on the course again, but an hour remains, please tell our timers and they will print your finishers card.

Results link will be provided closer to the event date.

Support/Crew and Spectator Zone: Crewing will be allowed at the event near our Start and Finish Line, which doubles as the transition zone on these looped courses, we call this area the Athlete Zone.  All courses start and end at the same point, making it easy for loved ones to cheer you on or fuel you up with your own special concoction of endurance fuel.

Athlete Zone: We’ll have a few tables under 10x10 tents setup for athletes to keep a SMALL bag of gear/fuel for themselves.  This will allow you to crew yourself in between your laps.  This is a self-supported event, meaning we will not be assisting you on course with any flat tires or mechanical issues.  We’ll have The Bike Shoppe in our festival area to assist with minor needs between laps.

Aid Stations: Due to the relatively short distance of each of our course laps (3.5 Mile loop for the run, 7 Mile loop for the Bike), we will not have any Aid Stations on course.  The Athlete Zone/Transition area will have an Aid Station that will be stocked with basic refueling supplies: Gatorade, Water, Salty/Sweet Snacks, etc.  You know your body, if you require specialized or substantial amounts of fuel, please prepare ahead and pack that in with you.

Course Details: Riders and Runners will have separate looped courses, with only small sections of the start and finish portions being shared.  With that in mind, please always be cognizant of other competitors, and do not rush by anyone without calling out “on your left” before you pass.  We expect competitors to be cordial and respectful to everyone on the trails.  While this is a closed-course, open only for our event’s competitors, you may encounter other trail users.  Please be respectful of all, and report any negatively impactful trail use to the staff at the Athlete Zone.

Course Marking: Courses will be marked with both colored signs and colored flagging tape.

  • Runners will have BLUE race bibs and the course will be marked with blue signs and blue flagging tape. Because a few runs will start in the dark, the blue flagging tape will have DOT reflective tape attached to it as well.

  • Riders will have ORANGE bike plates and the course will be marked with orange signs and orange flagging tape

  • Adaptive riders will have PINK bike plates and the course will be marked with pink signs and pink flagging tape

Mandatory and Recommended Gear: The following gear is required/recommended for each fixed time event:

  • Required: Headlamps ARE REQUIRED for all 3 Hour Solo Run & the Cutler Challenge Run competitors, as runners will be starting the event in the dark.  Sunrise is at 7:28AM.  Please do not show up without a headlamp, as you will not be allowed to start your event

  • A water bottle/bladder for hydration, on-course nutrition should you require it, packable windbreaker, and other clothing items as noted below in the weather section.

Weather / Clothing: The NUT is a Rain or Shine event.  Weather this time of year can go in any and every direction.  Current forecasts are predicting Low 40’s at night and in the morning, with highs in the Mid 60’s, but Utah weather is always subject to change.  With that in mind, we recommend that you come prepared for all types of weather and bring the following items with you to the event:

  • Rain Jacket / WindBreaker

  • Stocking Cap

  • Riding/Running Gloves

  • Insulated long sleeve top

  • Long leggings/pants/rain pants

  • Buff or Neck Gaiter

  • Warm weather gear

Awards: Awards will be given to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each gender category (i.e. 6 Hour Run will have one male and one female winner).  There are no age-group categories at The Northern Utah Trailfest.

The Rules of the Trails

Dogs: Yes, we love ‘em, but there are no dogs allowed on course at these events.  You may have your well behaved dog, leashed at all times, with your crew person.  Please, no dogs off-leash anywhere, unattended, nor left in vehicles.

Headphones: Due to the single track awesomeness of this course, and the sometimes mixed use of riders and runners starting and ending together, in-ear headphones are not allowed.  Should you need to listen to music, only bone-conducting out-of-ear style headphones such as Shokz, will be allowed.

Leave No Trace: We follow leave no trace ethics at our events.  See their website for additional info.

  • Littering: No littering, unintentional or other.  Please secure your waste on you as you are moving through the event.  If this means stopping to put a wrapper in your pocket before you carry on, then that is what we encourage.

  • Trail Sustainability: Should we have wet trails at any point during the race, or any small sections of standing water/puddles, riders and runners are encouraged to go through, not around, those areas.  Going around puddles encourages unnecessary trail widening.

Cupless Event:  In the name of sustainability and reducing waste, the NUT run and bike races will be cupless events.  This means that at our Athlete Zone Aid Station, you’ll need to have your own reusable drinking vessel to fill up with gatorade or water.  We’re partnering with Hydrapak as our sustainability partner to help provide a reusable cup option for participants. Of course, you’re always welcome to bring your own favorite bottle or hydration system.

Wildlife: Respect it.  A moose/bear or any other animal on the trail ahead of you may mean stopping and respectfully waiting at a distance until it moves on.  Wildlife supersedes the race, as does safety and care for ALL others.
